Analyze the heroic, pompous and tragic beauty in Quang Dung’s poem Tay Tien

Analysis of the poem highlights the heroic, pompous, and tragic beauty of the Northwest natural scene, the Tay Tien battlefield and the Tay Tien soldier (through romantic inspiration and romantic writing – Quang Dung’s talent). ).

Born in the early period of the arduous resistance war against the French, Tay Tien is a beautiful recollection, vivid memories of a soldier in the Tay Tien army. Reminiscences of a talented soldier with a spirit of self-sacrifice for a great cause – Quang Dung. Therefore, unlike the beauty of the poems of the same time, the beauty of Tay Tien is a harmonious, pompous, and tragic beauty. The poem opens with a moody call, which at first seems strange to read:

Ma River is far away, Tay Tien!

Remember the mountains, remember to play with.

The two verses clearly define two different spaces. Real space and flashback space. However, only readers can clearly realize that, and for the poet, when he says “far away” is when images of a not-so-distant past are approaching; lifted him from the land of reality, let the soul of poetry float, “playing with memory” is also “far away”, not just “Song Ma”.

So, without the need for easy guidance to move the space for readers, a time of Tay Tien appeared immediately before our eyes. In the poet’s memory, the impressions are still hot and fresh and the day’s heaviness and hardship seem to have not completely dissipated, we see the landmarks appear, all are still here clearly in the mind. mind:

Sai Khao covered the tired army

Muong Lat flowers in the night slightly.

The actualization of the past under the influence of a strong memory has painted an impressive picture of harsh but also poetic nature. That nature often challenges warriors, sometimes wanting to bury small lives in the moments of the misty valley. But it is also this scene that makes the souls of the Hanoi-born boys soar. If the “fog” is cold, heavy and threatening, the “flowers” are so much lighter, fresh, and warm. “Flowers come in the night slightly” – Verse with many tones expressing a state of lightheadedness. Of course, the euphoria that has just come after an exhausting journey. The scenery of the mountains and forests that the Tay Tien army has stepped through is both poetic and majestic. A picture that moves our hearts like a modern ink painting: “Who’s house in Pha Luong is raining far away”. Again there are bold drawings, the verse seems to be broken in two: “Thousands of feet up, thousands of feet down”. Sometimes, the image of the mountains and forests is bustling with roaring shouts, and at other times, the poetic image of a girl with a canoe on a fast-flowing river. Quang Dung’s romantic inspiration does not limit the topic, on the contrary, through this inspiration, his soul opens up to the panorama of the Northwest mountains and forests, making our soul beautiful freely.

At the end of the poem, the wave of sudden awakening memories seems to fade away. A new wave has not yet been formed, so at this time, the memory is stretched, gently spreading to make the images more fresh. Readers have the opportunity to “rest” to be able to sway to the dance in the night of the festival with “The barracks light up the flower torch festival” and let their souls “swing” along the fresh petals on the flood water.

Nature in Tay Tien is always an important character, full of vitality and imbued with humanity. The author’s delicate poetic soul “captures” very sensitively a thin afternoon mist, a simple and spontaneously fluttering mountain reed flower shape. Then the poet breathed his soul into it and left us forever a wistful, loving feeling. And a beautiful poem appeared like a cloud in the evening border:

People who go to Chau Moc that foggy afternoon

There is a soul cleaning the shore.

Tay Tien shows a wild and wonderful natural scenery with all high mountains, abysses, steep slopes, roaring waterfalls and attractive dunes, the flow of flowers drifting with smoke, mist, and rain in the distance. The majestic and fierce natural background, highlighted the image of the “small” Tay Tien army as if it was flooded. But it was the confrontation and contrast that increased the heroic mettle of the Revolutionary army, which the enemy, as well as the hardships, could not subdue. The image of soldiers through Quang Dung’s drawings is unusual. Unusual in extreme hardship: eating hungry, wearing cold clothes, diseases, malaria to blue skin, hair loss. Unusual in that the author intentionally did not describe a particular soldier’s face with a specific name, he concentrated the good qualities of the Tay Tien heroes into the common face of an army:

Tay Tien army does not grow hair

The green army is fierce and fierce

Staring eyes send dreams across the border

Dreaming of Hanoi’s beautiful, fragrant night.

We can understand, this is a fairly realistic image of the soldier’s appearance in camouflage, his body pale from malaria. But the inspiration here is filled with a sense of familiarity. From acquaintances see their hero. The verse creates an opposite image. The outside is green like leaves, lacking in vitality, but inside the soldier shows a heroic and majestic attitude like a lobster in the “sacred forest of poisonous water”. The poem “The green army is fierce and fierce” evoked the courage of the warrior at that time. It bears the heroic appearance of a person who despises hardships and sacrifices to maintain the proud position of the Tay Tien army. The porch is horizontal and so romantic. With romantic writing style and passionate inspiration, Quang Dung created the contrast in the image to harmonize with the soul to make us understand and sympathize, here is a beautiful image.

Hanoians become warriors, the majesty is very Hanoi. Quang Dung correctly wrote the image of the soldier Tay Tien who left from Hanoi during the war:

Staring eyes send dreams across the border

Dreaming of Hanoi’s beautiful, fragrant night.

In fact, these two verses are just the poet’s heart who wants to express deeply and clearly the soldiery quality of a talented and romantic Hanoi young man. Another person said: during the fierce war, talking about the dream of “beautiful beauty” is far from the fighting spirit. In fact, human life is extremely rich, the mood of the Hanoi man has even more pomp and affection. Therefore, saying that the Tay Tien soldier “Dream night in Hanoi’s beautiful beauty”, only highlighted the beauty of those people. Moreover, true beauty never makes people lose their fighting spirit. The quality of a soldier through Quang Dung’s recollection has appeared both heroic, pompous and also tragic. The poet looked directly at the losses and sacrifices to write these verses:

Scattered the border of the distant land

Go to the battlefield without regretting your green life

There is something poignant in the poem that evokes sympathy in the reader’s heart. The remote borderland has rested so many soldiers’ lives. It was a bit desolate place before the distant graves. But then the poetic inspiration flared up again with heroic thoughts “Go on the battlefield without regretting the green life”, expressing a self-forgetfulness of the young, full of spirit. Their life motto is beautiful and simple. At that time, many poems were written about soldiers, but only Quang Dung’s Tay Tien boldly talked about death. Death creates the glory of a quiet green age that sublimely dedicates himself to the nation.

Quang Dung’s unique feature in Tay Tien is also reflected in a sharp and delicate pen. Written about war, but the whole poem does not have a word about the battle, about the gunfire, about the bloodshed or about the enemy. Readers still clearly visualize the face and atmosphere of war. The strange thing is that the poem has three mentions of the soldier’s death in different cases, but not once the poet mentions the word “death” or “sacrifice”. The poet has replaced the word “death” with simple phrases “return to the land”, “forget the life”, “soul return”… In the last verse of the poem, the revolutionary ideals and youth were passed on to the Tay Tien boys. heroic qualities and lovely romantic drunkenness. Even when they die, there is a subtle artistry – amateur beauty, tragic beauty, not melancholy.

To see off the soldier Tay Tien sacrificed, Quang Dung did not need a single clichéd praise, nor a tear… he just let heaven and earth witness, accepting the body and soul of the soldier in heart: “The Ma River roared with a lonely march” mourned the Tay Tien soldier into immortality. Because, since then, your souls have merged with trees, rivers and mountains to become the “sacred soul of the country”.

Critic Phong Lan commented: “Tay Tien is an immortal monument of an unknown soldier”. Immortal by this heroic, pompous, tragic beauty. And so, the soldier Tay Tien through the poem of the same name by Quang Dung will live forever in eternity and in the human world.
